Japanese sales charts Jan 17 – Jan 23: Nintendo Switch dominates
Nintendo has kicked off the year with strong sales in Japan, dominating the physical-release charts with Nintendo Switch games and consoles.
The latest data from Famitsu shows that Mario Party Superstars was the highest-selling game for this period, with over 20,000 titles sold to bring its lifetime total to 814,023. Can it surpass Super Mario Party, which came in at number 28 this week? This 2018 title moved over 1000 units itself to contribute to lifetime sales of 2,054,912.
Pokémon features prominently, too, with Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl coming in second place with 13,696 sales. It will be interesting to see how Pokémon Legends: Arceus fares in the next round of data.
In terms of consoles, the OLED model is the Switch of choice in Japan, selling the most units during this period. The regular ol’ Switch follows, with the Lite in third place, and all three topped the console charts overall.
