Pokemon Legends Arceus Sales Pass 1.4 Million Units at Launch in Japan
Famitsu announced that Pokemon Legends: Arceus sales during its first three days of release have reached an estimated number of 1,424,657 copies sold in Japan. The outlet counted physical sales in the country from January 28 to January 30, 2022. This number does not factor in digital sales. However, Famitsu did include sales of the physical download cards that gave buyers access to the game once they entered the serial number found within it. [Thanks, Famitsu!]
With this number, Pokemon Legends: Arceus has become the second best-selling Switch game during its launch week in Japan . It immediately went above Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. The remakes recorded 1,395,642 physical units sold in November 2021. All of the aforementioned games surpassed Pokemon Sword and Shield, which sold 1,364,544 units during their first three days of release in 2019.
Pokemon Legends: Arceus also received a distinction for being a single-version title. Famitsu combined the sales numbers for the previous Pokemon titles mentioned above, as they consist of two different versions. However, Arceus has not dethroned Animal Crossing: New Horizons as the best-selling Switch game during the first three days of its release in Japan. The latter had 1,880,626 physical units sold in March 2020.
Pokemon Legends: Arceus is immediately available worldwide on the Nintendo Switch. The Pokemon Company also started selling merchandise related to the game in Japan on January 28, 2022.
