‘Marvel Realm of Champions’ Shutting Down at the End of March
It feels like every few weeks or so there’s news of another free to play mobile game that’s shutting its doors. I don’t think your average mobile gamer realizes just how extraordinarily expensive it is to run a live services free to play game, and if yours isn’t making any money and more likely is losing gobs and gobs of money every single day, well there’s only one thing left to do and that’s pull the plug. Such is the case with Marvel Realm of Champions from Kabam, which posted a shutdown notice on their website this week, as noted by IGN. The game has already been pulled from App Stores with in-app purchasing disabled.
I guess the only consolation for these situations for active players is that the developers tend to send a game off with a major bang, and that will be the case here too. Prior to the game going offline on March 31st, all unreleased gear sets and weapons will be made available, the Units in-game currency will be dished out in generous fashion, buying Gear Crates and Crafting Crystals with said currency will be cheaper, and the game’s ongoing storyline about “who killed the Maestro?” will come to its conclusion.
As an alternative to playing Realm of Champions, Kabam suggest players move over to its (wildly successful, I should add) sister game Marvel Contest of Champions, and any Realm players who link their accounts between games will receive a package of goodies inside Contest of Champions for doing so. Until the game’s shutdown on March 31st, Arena Conquest, Daily Missions, Solo Conquest, War Thor’s Crucible and Deathmatch game modes will be available to play, so if you’re a Marvel Realm of Champions player you better get your last couple months of fun in while you can.
