The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild: Mezza Lo Shrine Guide
One of the Shrines in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the Mezza Lo Shrine or the Ancient Trifecta. This shrine requires Link to manipulate a switch that spins a platform around the middle of the shrine to open the entrance to the altar and the monk. However, Link must first complete a Shrine Quest to access the Shrine. In this guide, you will learn how to access and complete Mezza Lo Shrine, obtain the chest inside, and claim a Spirit Orb.
Link will be rewarded with Spirit Orbs for completing Shrines. The Spirit Orbs obtained can be exchanged for more Heart Containers or Stamina Vessels. As there are a total of 120 Shrines all over Hyrule, Link will get a total of 120 Spirit Orbs. You get to decide whether you want Link to have more Hearts or more Stamina.
Location
The Mezza Lo Shrine is located on the north side of Rabia Plain (east of Lanayru Wetlands, southeast of Lanayru Tower, west of Divine Beast Vah Ruta). There are various ways to reach Rabia Plain: Link can access Rabia Plain through the Lanayru Road – West Gate. You can also access the path near the Great Fairy Fountain near Kakariko Village, or Link can paraglide from Lanayru Tower or Divine Beast Vah Ruta. The Mezza Lo Shrine is one of seven shrines in the Hateno Tower Region.
As mentioned above, to access the Mezza Lo Shrine, Link must first finish The Crowned Beast Shrine Quest:
The Crowned Beast
Once you are in Rabia Plain, you will find a wandering Rito bard singing and playing the accordion named Kass near a huge tree on top of a hill on the northern edge of Rabia Plain. Just beside Kass is a glowing platform. Talk to Kass, and he will tell Link of an ancient verse that was passed down in this region:
A beast that wears a crown of bone,
Prancing through the lush green.
Mount the beast upon its throne,
For only then the shrine is seen.
This ancient verse means that for Mezza Lo Shrine to appear (and complete this Shrine Quest), Link must find a stag (a big deer with horns) and bring it to the glowing platform beside Kass. Fortunately, there are some stags in the Rabia Plain. To bring a stag near Kass, this is what Link must do:
- Crouch and sneak up on a stag (you can equip stealth clothes or consume food and elixirs that increase stealth to help you out).
- Then, when the prompt appears, ride the stag the same way as riding a wild horse.
- Next, rapidly press the L button until the stag calms down.
- Once the stag is all calm and stable, ride the stag towards Kass and let it stand on the glowing platform beside him.
After doing all these, the glowing platform will activate, and the Mezza Lo Shrine will emerge near the huge true up the hill. Just like that, The Crowned Beast Shrine Quest is complete, and you can now enter Mezza Lo Shrine!
Ancient Trifecta
Upon entering the Mezza Lo Shrine, you will see that there are a lot of platforms around the room, and the platform directly to Link’s right is the only platform with a ramp on it, and on top of it is a glowing switch. At the right side of that platform is another platform with a laser on top that is being blocked by a huge metal cube. Then, near the middle of the room is the entrance to the altar, but the entrance is closed. This is what Link must do to complete this shrine:
- First, proceed up the platform in Link’s right and hit the switch with a weapon. This will cause the platform in the middle to revolve in a clockwise manner from the platform with the chest to the other platform with a pressure plate on it. Hit the switch a second time to move the platform to the entrance of the altar.
- Next, press the up directional button and select the cube Remote Bomb Rune ability then press the L button to conjure up a Remote Bomb and press A to put it down and leave it near the switch.
- After that, press the up directional button again but this time select the Magnesis Rune ability and activate Magnesis on the huge metal cube.
- Then, raise the metal cube up so that the laser will hit the switch. This will cause the platform to move to the platform that Link is on.
- With Magnesis still activated on the metal cube and with the cube still raised up, let Link move to the top of the moving platform. Then, block the laser with the metal cube again and raise the metal cube back up so the laser will hit the switch again. This will cause the moving platform to move to the next platform with the chest on it while Link is riding.
- Next, with the metal cube still being raised by the Magnesis Rune ability, bring the metal cube to the next platform with the pressure plate and drop it directly on top of the pressure plate. This will cause the entrance to the altar to be opened.
- There is a chest on the platform that Link is still on. Open the chest to obtain a Thunderblade.
- Then, go back to the top of the moving platform and from there, shoot the switch with Link’s bow and arrow. This will move the platform to the platform with the pressure plate and the huge metal cube.
- Next, while still on top of the moving platform, press the up directional button and select the cube Remote Bomb Rune ability which will be blinking because you have an active Remote Bomb in the room. Press the L button to detonate it and hit the switch. This will cause the moving platform to move to the entrance of the altar.
- Finally, go to the altar, talk to the monk, and claim your Spirit Orb!
As mentioned above, the Mezza Lo Shrine or the Ancient Trifecta is one of seven shrines in the Hateno Tower region. The other shrines are the Myahm Agana Shrine or the Myahm Agana Apparatus, the Kam Urog Shrine or the Trial of Passage, the Jitan Sa’mi Shrine or Jitan Sa’mi’s Blessing, the Dow Na’eh Shrine or the Three Boxes, the Tahno O’ah Shrine or Tahno O’ah’s Blessing, and the Chaas Qeta Shrine or A Major Test of Strength.
