James Gunn Responds To Supposed Lack Of Sex In Superhero Movies
Depictions of sex can be tricky to maneuver around, especially in superhero films where the general audience might be younger than the intended demographic. Then again, there’s the belief that if some children can handle bad guys being shot at and exploded, some under-the-covers romance won’t be as traumatizing.
Most of the earlier instances were usually post-business such as Superman II and Batman ’89 and you never saw the actual act as they were, for the most part, intended for kids. As time went on, that obviously changed where in the first Deadpool there is year-round sexing and we saw Night Owl and Silk Spectre do the deed in the Owl Ship in 2009’s Watchmen. Last year, Marvel’s Eternals was the newest entrant and first Marvel movie to show lovemaking between Ikarus and Sersi.
However, Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh commented on one of the main reasons that he wouldn’t direct a superhero film is that “there’s no f*cking.” James Gunn wanted to set that record straight and say that’s not exactly the case.
