The Super Bowl Drops a New Teaser for Sonic the Hedgehog 2

Jim Carrey may not have sported the classic Dr. Robotnik look in the first Sonic the Hedgehog film, but he’s going all out with the crazy mustache and bald head with Sonic the Hedgehog 2. A new teaser has dropped at the Super Bowl and it tells audiences to “Choose Your Team”.

Here’s the official description:

The world’s favorite blue hedgehog is back for a next-level adventure in SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 2. After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is eager to prove he has what it takes to be a true hero. His test comes when Dr. Robotnik returns, this time with a new partner, Knuckles, in search for an emerald that has the power to destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a globe-trotting journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands.

The movie conveniently picks up from the teasers of the last film, with Sonic having his team grow with Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessey). A lot of fans also recognize Knuckles (Idris Elba) as Sonic’s edgy friend, so even if the two are going head to head in the trailer, it’s very likely that the film will end with Knuckles leaving Robotnik and teaming up with Sonic.

With Sonic having a more friends in the expanded material, I guess that the film is going to hold off on introducing us to more characters. Then again, we had no idea Tails would be in the first film, so maybe more familiar faces could show up in Sonic 2 (Shadow the Hedgehog, anyone?). Hopefully this sequel will be another fun romp for kids.

Catch Sonic the Hedgehog 2 when it comes to theaters on April 8.
