The next chapter in Dead by Daylight is coming this March and it features the cult-classic Japanese horror movie series Rungu, or The Ring for some. Titled ‘Sadako Rising’, this chapter includes the one and only Sadako as a playable killer and Yoichi Asakawa as the new survivor.

The Sadako Rising chapter is set to launch on March 8. The reveal comes with a new trailer teasing both Sadako (officially known as The Onryō in-game) and Yoichi in action, which you can see below.

Just like previous chapters released in Dead by Daylight, the game’s Public Test Build (PTB) is now available once again for PC and comes with the Sadako Rising chapter, in case players are eager to try the new content coming to the game before release, providing feedback in case they come across something game breaking. All players are welcome and it’s quick and easy to access the PTB. Full instructions on how to do so can be found in the Dead by Daylight forums.

Apparently this chapter will be a treat for Rungu fans as the game will add more context about Yoichi Asakawa , the only protagonist in the series to survive the curse. It’s been 20 years since Yoichi faced Sadako and survived, and apparently he grew up to be a marine biologist. It’s unfortunate that he’s now trapped in the fog.

“To be granted the trust by Kadokawa to finish the story of Yoichi Asakawa is one of the greatest honours for me. Choosing to finally reveal a long-expected untold story via a video game is a bold decision that speaks to the importance of our medium in today’s pop culture.” says Creative Director Dave Richard as the rest of the team at Behaviour Interactive get to fill in the gaps of what he’s been up to since his encounter with Sadako.

This isn’t the first time Dead by Daylight has had a crossover with iconic horror characters as the game now features Freddy Kreuger from Nightmare at Elm’s Street, Michael Myers from Halloween, a killer inspired by the Saw series, and just last year Pinhead from the Hellraiser series was added to the game.

The 4v1 isometric game also features horrors from famous video game horror franchises like Nemesis from Resident Evil and Pyramid Head from Silent Hill.
