Sony Giving Fans a Chance to Win a PS5 by Finding Hidden Codes
Can’t find a PlayStation 5 and don’t want to pay scalpers? Here’s your chance to get one for free. Sony’s giving players in several regions the opportunity to enter a PS5 lottery of sorts. There are 14 codes, called Treat Codes, hidden in “unexpected places” around the world. Once you find a code, you will be able to use it to enter the contest. The more codes you find, the more chances you’ll win.
What the heck are Treat Codes and how does this contest work?
A series of 14 unique codes in the shape of controller inputs will appear on social media, and sports, gaming, film, and music events. Once you spot a code, head over to PlayStation.com and enter the code correctly in the widget provided. You will then have to answer a question. Those whose answers are closest to the correct answer, will win a PS5.
“Keep your eyes peeled over the next few weeks, as not every code will be available at once,” Sony wrote. “The more codes you find, the more opportunities you’ll have to enter and win!” The first hint Sony has provided involves keeping an eye on streamers’ channels who are playing PlayStation games. If you’re on Twitter, use the hashtag #PS5TREATCODES to keep up.
Now, the fine print. You have until 10am PST on March 7 to find the codes and enter the contest. You’ll only be eligible to participate if you are a legal resident in the following countries: Argentina, Canada, Chile, Mexico and United States, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, New Zealand, Poland, United Kingdom.
In other news, Cyberpunk 2077’s PS5 upgrade is borked for many players, and Avalanche is rumored to be working on Mad Max 2.
