Waifu JRPG Duel Princess Unlisted From Switch Eshop in Japan

Duel Princess, the tower defense game with JRPG and rogue-lite elements from Qureate, was delisted from the Japanese Nintendo Switch Eshop.

Duel Princess is the newest game from Qureate. A Japanese developer which focuses on releasing anime-stylized games with cute girls and a lot of titillation. One cool thing about Qureate is that all their games get worldwide releases. With English localization.

A Steam version of Duel Princess was initially planned but is now undecided. The producer of Qureate hinted that Steam banned the game.

Was Qureate’s Duel Princess banned from Switch?

As pointed out by our Japanese peers at Automaton, Duel Princess is not available on the Japanese Nintendo Switch Eshop anymore since January 26. The game was first released on January 13, 2022. However, it’s unlikely Nintendo banned the game. Seeing Duel Princess is still available in other regions outside Japan.

As you can see for yourself with the screenshots on its official site, Duel Princess is a pretty lewd game as it most notably has a “punish the girls” like feature. The players, controlling the female protagonist, can use the Switch’s touch screen to touch the defeated princesses to steal away their magic crests. It’s nothing violent. Nor surprising if you’re used to anime. And It’s similar to a lot of games that used to be released on Nintendo DS, 3DS, and Vita. Such as Doki Doki Majo Shinpan, Bullet Girls Phantasia, or Criminal Girls.

However, this could be why the game was removed from the Japanese Eshop. After the game’s release, the scenes were possibly deemed to be too much for the game’s current rating.

Qureate mentioned Duel Princess will be back to the Japanese Eshop at some point. The studio only cited “various reasons” for the removal.

Duel Princess is Cero D in Japan. In my opinion, there are two possibilities. 1/ The game will get slightly censored. 2/ Qureate won’t change anything in the game itself, but will get its rating up to Cero Z. This could be a risk for the game’s sales though. Be sure to read our past explanations on the Cero rating system if you’ve got no idea what I’m talking about.

What do you guys think? Did you already play Duel Princess? Tell us in the comments!
