Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin explains the basics of battle in latest video
Team Ninja and Square Enix have dropped a gameplay explanation trailer for the upcoming Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin.
Coming shortly after Tuesday’s ‘final’ trailer, this one focuses less on the story and more on gameplay. You’ll take the role of Jack Garland, and find out just how he became the epic RPG series’ first villain. He’s joined by pals Jed, Ash, Neon and Sophia and they’re out to bring peace back to the kingdom of Cornelia.
We’re given a good look at combat, where you’ll have to chip away at your foe’s Break Gauge. Do so, and you’ll then use Soul Burst to turn them into an easily-shattered crystal form. Command abilities will also let you pull off specific moves to help you in a bind too. Meanwhile Soul Shield not only lets you deflect attacks, but to steal magic from your enemies as well.
Elsewhere, the previously-mentioned job system gets a going over. The Swordsman is your default state, with plenty of others to unlock depending on the weapons you wish to master. You’ll be able to change jobs at the push of a button before you head into battle, letting you adapt to the situation. You’ll advance these jobs, and unlock new skills and abilities as you go.
Of course, you’ll be able to find equipment, both on felled opponents and in chests on the field. Certain equipment pieces will also have affinities to certain jobs to boost their effectiveness. If things are getting really tough, you’ll also be able to team up with friends online. You can check out some of that in the trailer too.
Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin arrives on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC on March 18.
