Call Of Duty Warzone 2 Might Be A Completely New Entry Only On Current-Gen Consoles

According to a well-known industry insider, Tom Henderson, Call of Duty Warzone 2 will be a completely new entry in the Call of Duty series. So, rather than being integrated into the original game, it will be a full-on sequel only on current-gen consoles (PS5/Xbox Series X|S). That means Warzone 2 will be a completely clean slate which means operators, weapons, skins won’t carry over to the new game at all. He explained how the game will function through an outline in a recent Twitter post.

As seen here, the original Warzone is considered as a Legacy title and will have content from Modern Warfare, Black Ops Cold War, and Vanguard. But Warzone 2 on the other hand will integrate content from the upcoming Modern Warfare 2. This essentially confirms a clean slate that will have no relation to the current one. While the Legacy Warzone will support both current and past-gen consoles, Warzone 2 will only be on the current-gen ones. Even if it is brought to past gen consoles, there will be no option for cross-play.

Stats may carry over as indicated in the outline. But there is a high possibility that assets may not carry over. Support and player progression will still remain in the Legacy Warzone.

When will Call of Duty Warzone 2 be released?

At this point, we don’t know for sure when Warzone 2 will get released. But judging by the past we might see that it gets released by late 2022 or early 2023. Modern Warfare 2 is currently in production and is expected to get released this year. So, after that, we might have to wait a few months to get any news of Warzone 2.

If Modern Warfare 2 does well we might see an announcement or teaser very soon. But at this point, it is just speculative. What we know for sure is the new Warzone is a legit game and is definitely happening.
