Activision Blizzard Made $5.1 Billion from Microtransactions and DLC Sales in 2021
Activision Blizzard has been in the news for various reasons of late, specifically for the acquisition of the company by Microsoft. But apart from the planned acquisition, the company in itself has been doing pretty well in terms of making profits on their games as well.
In the company’s recent quarterly financial results, Activision Blizzard disclosed that in 2021, the company raked in $5.1 billion from in-game spending, which includes microtransactions and DLC purchases for games. To compare, the company enjoyed a 5% increase in profits compared to 2020’s $4.85 billion.
However, as far as net profit goes, the company saw a decrease in profits, as they made a sum total of $8.35 billion in 2021, which is lower than the 2020s $8.41 billion they earned.
Regardless, the numbers prove that the in-game purchases for their games have been very beneficial for the company in the longer run, and with a lineup that includes the likes of Call of Duty and World of Warcraft, that doesn’t come as a surprise.
