Alliance is now trying to rebuild its team after going through a really tough Tour 1 of the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) 2021-22, which relegated its Dota 2 roster to Division 2. To this end, the organization’s CEO/Co-Founder Jonathan “Loda” Berg has taken to Twitter to seek advice from fans for Alliance. Aliwi “w33” Omar, a player who has long been a popular suggestion was once again brought up as a possible in the comments leading Kelly “kellymilkies” Ong, the organization’s Chief Strategy Officer, to explain why it was not possible to sign the player.

Kellymilkies explained that w33 is religious due to which he would not compete in a team like Alliance that has betting companies as sponsors. She mentioned that she tried reaching a compromise, but the two parties couldn’t come to an agreement.

W33 did not join Alliance because he is against teams with betting sponsors

In the aftermath of The International 10 (TI10), when teams from around the globe were switching players and rumors of such changes were doing the rounds, it was reported that w33 was joining Alliance. At the time of the official announcement, the new Alliance midlaner was not w33, but Ondřej “Supream^” Štarha from Chicken Fighters.

Kellymilkies confirmed that w33 did not join Alliance because the team had a gambling sponsor. VBET, a sports and gaming betting company, sponsors Alliance and that was the reason w33, due to his religious beliefs, was not able to join the team.

Kellymilkies said she toned down the requirements to just using the tag of the sponsor while inside the game, but w33 still refused. She says VBET funds the majority of their Dota 2 salaries but does not ask for much in return and hence Alliance stopped pursuing W33 as a possible signing.

I tried to reach a compromise w him and only asked to put the tag in game. No banners or jersey placements specially for him but he still said no.

So don’t waste your time as we won’t waste others. We respect him immensely for his choice but don’t suggest obvious names 🙂

W33 has been a member of Nigma Galaxy’s inactive roster since April 2021 but was reported to be open to pursuing new opportunities. As per the match history on his main account from April 2021 until TI10, he had been largely inactive from competitive Dota 2 and pubs. But, he started to play a lot more pubs after TI10. In fact, Dota 2 Pro Tracker shows that he has played 80 games in the last eight days.

In the Twitter thread where fans are suggesting Alliance players, in addition to w33, another midlaner that was being suggested is Talon Esports’ Rafli Fathur “Mikoto” Rahman. As a response, Kellymilkies mentioned that they had tried to get Mikoto to Europe to play for Alliance, but he insisted on continuing to play in Southeast Asia.

Alliance’s Dota 2 roster currently consists of the following players after the team parted ways with position five/captain Simon “Handsken” Rasmus Haag.

  1. Nikolay “Nikobaby” Nikolov

  2. Ondřej “Supream^” Štarha

  3. Rodrigo “Lelis” Santos

  4. Adam “Aramis” Moroz

  5. TBD

As Loda had mentioned, there may be more changes to the squad in the near future. The team has more than a month to determine its final roster for Division 2 of the DPC 2021-22 Tour 1.
