Atlus is Teasing a Soul Hackers-Related Announcement with a Countdown Website

Atlus’ Nintendo Switch exclusive JRPG Shin Megami Tensei 5 performed well last year, with Sega even acknowledging the title to be one of the key drivers for their profit surges. It seems, however, that the Japanese developers are not yet done, and might be gearing up to resurrect a surprising game.

Today, Atlus launched a website with a timer on it, seemingly teasing an announcement slated for next week. While this might seem like a normal affair, what is intriguing is the domain name for the website, which is “soul-hackers.jp.” The domain name indicates that maybe the company is going to reveal something related to Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers.

Apart from that, at 8 PM JST, Atlus streamed an “Information Collection Sequence” livestream, news of which was tweeted out by the official Atlus Japan, Persona, Shin Megami Tensei, and Soul Hackers Twitter accounts, which culminated in mysterious images emerging.

There is no extra information as to what the announcement is going to be about. The timer is scheduled to end at 8:00 pm JST, on Monday, February 21, along with the website being updated with the text “Hack Begins: 2022.2.18 FRI 10:00,” which suggests another information collection stream might happen on February 18, 10 AM JST. Not only that, the Atlus Japan YouTube channel has scheduled a stream, which is due to go live on February 21, 8 PM JST.

For the uninitiated, Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers is a JRPG released by Atlus in 1997 for the Sega Saturn, being a spin-off to the popular Megami Tensei series. The game was eventually ported to PlayStation in 1999, and 3DS in 2012, getting localized for the western audience. Soul Hackers itself is the second game in the Devil Summoner subseries.

Given the company has a history of re-releasing and remastering their older games, such as releasing Persona 4 Golden on Steam, and remastering Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne, it is very much a possibility that the upcoming announcement could be a multi-platform re-release, remaster, or maybe even a sequel.
