Blizzard is developing a new survival game
Blizzard Entertainment announced that they are developing a new survival game with a completely new world as the studio is now in search for new hires to help build this new IP.
“We are going on a journey to a whole new universe, home to a brand-new survival game for PC and console. A place full of heroes we have yet to meet, stories yet to be told, and adventures yet to be lived. A vast realm of possibility, waiting to be explored.” says Blizzard in their announcement post.
They didn’t go into detail as the post is more of a job listing to build their team for this new survival game, highlighting that there are art, engineering, and design roles open for applications. We did however get some concept art that suggests a modern setting of sorts where people discover a completely new world (based on the image below).
At this point it’s hard to tell if this new survival game is in early stages of development but Blizzard chief Mike Ybarra went to Twitter to say that he’s played “many hours” of the new project and that he’s “excited about the team’s vision and the brand-new world”.
I’ve played many hours of this project with the team and I’m incredibly excited about the teams vision and the brand-new world it presents for players to immerse themselves in together. Join us to help make it a reality! https://t.co/pLhijX2Li9

The last time Blizzard launched a completely new IP was back when Overwatch was released in 2016. Since then, the studio has retained their focus in supporting core franchises such as StarCraft, World of Warcraft, Diablo, and now Overwatch.
It’s been an interesting start of the year, especially for publisher Activision Blizzard as the company was acquired by Microsoft for close to $70 billion. Activision Blizzard is also going through various allegations of sexism, harassment, and having a toxic workplace within the company. These allegations and cases led to a variety of employees stepping down or being fired. The frequent change in leadership recently has also resulted in delays of highly anticipated titles such as Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2, so don’t expect these games to come out anytime this year.
