Cyberpunk 2077 PS5 Upgrade Is Borked for Many Players
Cyberpunk 2077‘s much-awaited PlayStation 5 upgrade and accompanying patch arrived yesterday, but things haven’t exactly gone smoothly for a sizeable chunk of the game’s player base. Players in several regions have been locked out of the upgrade simply because their physical copy of the game isn’t from the same region as their PSN account. They have to go through the additional step of creating a new PSN account to avail the offer Not only that, but many PlayStation players are reporting crashes, corrupted data, and their consoles shutting down while attempting to transfer to the next-gen version. It appears that these issues don’t plague Cyberpunk 2077’s Xbox versions.
What’s wrong with Cyberpunk 2077 PS5 upgrade?
According to an FAQ posted by CD Projekt RED, your disc has to match your PSN account region. “Before purchasing the game, always make sure with the shop which region the game is from,” the developer wrote. “Some shops have non-local versions in their offer.” Well, sucks to be you if you purchased Cyberpunk 2077 before this disclaimer. To be clear, this issue only affects Cyberpunk 2077 PlayStation disc owners.
In addition to the above, your PS4 trophy progress won’t carry over to the PS5 so if you were trophy hunting or chasing the Platinum, you might want to continue using the PS4 version. Finally, if you were playing Cyberpunk 2077 on the PS4, you will only be able to transfer one save file.
Opinion: Xbox Smart Delivery makes PS5 upgrades look awful
Zarmena writes… Fanboy this all you want but Sony messed up. Xbox owners have barely had any issues upgrading their games to next gen or transferring save data over. In contrast, PS5 owners continue to run into annoying roadblocks or have to go through extraordinary measures to upgrade, which is down to Sony’s poor infrastructure. Here’s hoping someone at Sony is paying attention.
In other news, Horizon Forbidden West is getting a LEGO set, and BioShock is getting a movie.
