A new DayZ update is now available to download on PC and consoles. You’ll need to install this latest patch to access the game and play online.

DayZ update 1.16 is the Bohemia Interactive’s first big patch for the popular survival sandbox game in 2022. It packs in a ton of fixes and adjustments while also introducing new gear as well as a bonus weapon, the Bizon sub-machine gun.

This kicks off another year of DayZ support, the game’s developers confirming that some pretty major changes and improvements are in the pipeline. At least one new weapon will be added with each coming update with maps undergoing a facelift thanks to new landmarks, terrain, and assets. Vehicle controls as well as controller support on consoles will also be reviewed throughout the year.

You can catch the new patch notes here – PlayStation/Xbox and PC – or review a list of major changes below.

DayZ Update 1.16 Highlights

  • Health damage from starvation was not applied when one kept drinking water.
  • Characters were occasionally punching sideways during melee combat, as well as stepping forward, even though there were obstacles in front of them.
  • It was possible to destroy base building walls (on fences or watchtowers) just by shooting frames from outside.
  • Tolerance for the placing of base building structures (kits and tents) was increased, which should allow for much easier placing of these objects on uneven terrain.
  • Bear traps can break the legs of the infected.
  • Firearms with internal magazines now have a randomized quantity of bullets.

It’s been a while since we originally began our journey into the apocalyptic wasteland of Chernarus. At launch, we scored DayZ a dismal 2/10 in our review stating: “DayZ has a rich history, a long lineage of war stories and strange survivor tales that have drawn thousands down its rabbit hole, but its reality is very different. There’s nothing here but a dull, vacuous wasteland, devoid of character and relying solely on players to make their own fun.”
