Demon Slayer introduces ‘Gyutaro’, powers and backstory explored
Demon Slayer season 2 episode 14 introduced the new Upper-Rank ‘Gyutaro’, but where did this new enemy come from and what are his powers?
Demon Slayer is known for its excellent villains, from the overshadowing Master Muzan and the movie-ending Akaza, to the nightmarish Spider-family from season 1.
However, the most horrifying Demon has just made his big introduction, an unnerving sibling to the now-infamous Daki…Gyutaro.
Now, as fans around the world wait patiently for season 2 episode 15 of Demon Slayer, we explore Gyutaro’s past and powers.
- DEMON SLAYER: Who voices Gyutaro in season 2?
Who is the new Demon?
In season 2 episode 14 of Demon Slayer, a new Demon emerges from Daki’s back after Tengen realises she isn’t dying, even after being decapitated.
The new demon is called ‘Gyutaro’, he is the brother of Daki and a fellow member of the Upper-Rank Six, also part of the wider ‘Twelve Kizuki’ i.e., the 12 most-powerful Demon’s in existence.
He appears as a relatively tall man but with a hunched-posture, pale skin and matted black hair. Gyutaro is extremely muscley and well-toned, with his torso accentuated by an extremely skinny waist – appearing to have inward-growing hip joints.
Despite being very complimentary towards Tengen in season 2 episode 14, Gyutaro is incredibly self-centred and jealous of other’s traits – especially those around looks. When Tengen reveals that he has three wives, Gyutaro claws as his own face and rips chunks out of his torso out of jealousy.
Whilst he is, rather obviously, a very cruel Demon; his love for his sister Daki is one of the strongest aspects of the character. His first instinct upon emerging was to comfort her, even to acknowledge her feelings in the middle of his battle with Lord Tengen.

What are Gyutaro’s powers?
Gyutaro is a member of the Upper-Rank demons and as such, has outstanding physical attributes and powers suited for combat.
His Blood Demon Art allows him to manipulate his own blood in various ways, including making solid objects that can be used as weapons.
According to the Demon Slayer Fandom page, it is implied that his regenerative abilities, he never run out of blood and can theoretically, infinitely produce attacks from his own body.
His most-used weapons are two Sickle-shaped objects, which he can throw and control mid-air – making his long-ranged attacks just as deadly as his close-quarters combat.
Gyutaro’s other main ability is ‘core detachment’, where he can remove his Demon core from his own body, making the threat of fighting both him and Daki all the more terrifying.
He also has the following additional abilities, with many being traits of fellow Upper-Rank Demons:
- Decapitation immunity
- Extrasensory perception
- Shared biology
- Increased durability
- Increase regeneration
- Poison generation
- Increased movement speed and reflexes
- Unlimited endurance
He has also reportedly killed and eaten 15 Hashira by the time of his introduction in the recent anime episode.

What was his background like?
Before being turned into a Demon at the age of 13, Gyutaro lived a life of poverty and abuse as a child in the Yoshiwara Entertainment District.
He was bullied and beaten viciously for his unusual voice, physical appearance and standing in wider society.
His abuse at the hands of humans is the reason why he is so exceptionally cruel in the Entertainment District Arc, as well as why he becomes so jealous over Tengen having good looks and three wives.
According to the chronological timeline for Demon Slayer, Gyutaro is 126-years-old.
