Doki Doki Literature Club is an amazing visual novel developed by Team Salvato, which came out in 2017 for PC, but was re-released with its Plus version! for PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch in June 2021, also arriving translated into several languages.

And we underline what is surprising, because the game has a totally unexpected twist, and appearances are deceiving. It may seem like a cute and somewhat cheesy dating game, but it soon turns… much more sinister.

Doki Doki Literature Club is a subversive game that breaks all the rules, including the fourth wall. At various points, the game will seem to end or even take us back to the menu, with visual glitches that are intentional.

How to get the bad ending

Actually, the normal ending is linear. After seeing Sayori’s inevitable death at the end of act 1, the game takes you to the main menu and the “New Game” option appears distorted, but you have to continue as usual. To get the normal ending, the “bad ending”, you will not have to reload any saves.

After seeing Yuri’s death, the game seems to restart again, you will be left alone with Monika. This will explain how to finish the game: deleting the monika.chr file. Then you will have to re-enter the game until you see the normal ending.

How to get the good ending

To get the good ending it is recommended to have seen the “bad” ending before, as you have to start a game from the beginning, but you will have to delete all saved data after your original game.

In addition, this process requires saving the game at a certain point and repeating various sections. Save the game when it’s your turn to write your first poem.

Your objective is to write poems that make the three girls fall in love: Sayori, Yuri, and Natsuki respectively. Focus on one girl and make decisions that favor them (for example, saying “I like you” to Sayori when she asks), or taking her side when they argue.

The most important thing is to write poems that you like, and for this, you must use the favorite words of each character. You can find out what each girl’s list of favorite words is by going into the Metaverse file explorer and looking for a file called wordspoems.txt.

Your ultimate goal is to have all the CG images (nine, three of each girl) before moving on to deleting the monika.chr file.

This is the moment where you should restart the process by loading the save point (before the first poem) and taking a different route.

• Sayori: After the third poem, choose Yuri to help you with the festival and tell her you to love her and get her CG image
• Natsuki: After the third poem, choosing Natsuki to help you with the festival and Sayori leaving when Natsuki leaves
• Yuri: Tell Sayori you love her. If you’ve done all three steps before, you can continue playing without having to load your game, because now it’s your turn to write Monika a poem. Don’t delete her file yet, as you need to get her CG image (which you get when Monika stares at you).

After doing this, continue playing normally as you did in your first game to see the good ending.

How to get the secret ending

There is still a third ending, almost as a curiosity, because you get it before even starting a game. To do this, start the game, and before selecting New Game delete the monika.chr file.

When you start a new game, the game will crash. If you open it again, you will see a special screen. Of course, if you want to use the game again, you will have to reinstall it again.
