Pokemon Legends Arceus Gyms Badges

Pokemon as a series has had many staples over the years that have been a part of the games throughout most entries and both gyms and badges are one of them without question, so people are definitely wondering if they are a part of the all new Pokemon Legends Arceus.

Pokemon Legends Arceus is definitely the most ambitious game in the franchise to date with what it’s trying to do, though it’s technically still considered a spin-off title than a true mainline one by most.

One of the most interesting aspects of the game is that it takes place in a past version of the Sinnoh Region, known as the Hisui Region back then, so we are getting a glimpse at the earlier days of the Pokemon world that we have gotten to know over the years.

Gyms And Badges History In The Series

From the very beginning of the series in Pokemon Red and Blue, Gyms have played a major part in all but one generation. The Gyms were the main obstacle for players to overcome on the way to taking down the Elite Four and becoming Pokemon Champion.

By defeating a Gym Leader that always has a theme of sorts with typing, you are given a Badge to reflect your victory. They aren’t just symbols of victory either, as they have also allowed you to use certain HMs in the past, as well as have higher level traded Pokemon listen to you.

Gyms and Badges were a guaranteed part of the mainline series up until Pokemon Sun and Moon, which changed things entirely by replacing them with what were called Island Challenges. These trials were quite different, but served the same purpose as a way to push you forward in the game.

This did not last too long though, as Gyms and Badges returned once again in Pokemon Sword and Shield. Not only that, but it also included the twist of having one Gym be different between the two versions of the game.

Are Gyms and Badges In Pokemon Legends Arceus?

Pokemon Legends Arceus is definitely unlike anything we’ve ever seen in the series, as it changes much of what players have been used to over the years.

One of those changes is the lack of Gyms and thus a lack of Badges, instead introducing Frenzied Noble Pokemon that you have to defeat during the game to progress instead.

While they are not Gyms in the classic sense, they seem to serve the same purpose as a way to gatekeep you from advancing further like we also saw with the Island Challenges in Sun and Moon.

The good news is that there is still plenty to do in Pokemon Legends Arceus even without the Gyms, so make sure to get yourself prepared.
