NACON has bought Daedalic Entertainment for 53 million euros

NACON has announced that it has purchased developer Daedalic Entertainment at a price of 53 million euros. Daedalic Entertainment is currently developing The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, and NACON was already involved with that project as the publishing partner. Other games that Daedalic Entertainment has released include the Deponia games, Blackguards, Blackguards 2, and State of Mind.

“We knew, through our current collaboration on Gollum, that NACON and Daedalic share the same values and the same objectives to deliver unique experiences to gamers. Therefore, it seemed logical to go further together and we’re extremely happy of this acquisition. It represents a significant step in Nacon’s strategy.” said Alain Falc, Chairman and CEO of NACON.

“After eventful years in which we always came out on top, I feel proud looking back at the past 15 years and the development of the company. Daedalic Entertainment has established itself as a publisher and developer of exceptional games across various genres and on all relevant platforms and has cemented that position globally. Together with Nacon, we are now taking the next step to further develop our catalogue of games created by our own team as well as many incredible indie studios. We are looking back at a trusting and cooperative collaboration on The Lord of the Rings™: Gollum™ and forward to an even brighter future together.” said Carsten Fichtelmann founder and CEO, Daedalic Entertainment.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum was announced in 2019 but there was precious little information at the time. Where past games based on the Lord of the Rings license have typically focused on orc-slaying action (see Shadow of Mordor) or real-time warfare (Battle for Middle-Earth II) Daedalic are taking a different approach: a story-driven adventure which leans on Gollum’s penchant for stealth and trickery. His split personality – a side effect from bearing the One Ring – also comes into play, influencing the decisions you will make as the game unfolds. Gollum has been everywhere in Middle Earth, and met everyone, and Daedalic are touting this as being the first time that people will have seen many of the key locations from the novels in as much detail.
