February is here and with it, as we’ve come to expect now, a range of new events and changes in Pokemon GO, including a new Research Breakthrough Pokemon.

The month is set to be a big one, with what is likely to be the second biggest event of the year featuring in the latter half, the Kanto Tour.

Before that, however, there are still a handful of events to get excited about including the Lunar New Year, which kicks off the month and the yearly Valentines Day event.

Pokemon GO February 2022 Research Breakthrough Pokemon Explained

The Pokemon GO Research Breakthrough Pokemon for February 2022 is none other than Espurr, which debuted in Pokemon X and Y.

While it may seem a random choice, it’s quite an exciting one, as, for the first time ever, players will be able to encounter and capture a shiny Espurr in the game.

Here’s When You Can Safely Claim Your Research Breakthrough Pokemon

As with every Research Breakthrough Pokemon, players will be able to claim their Espurr on the first day of the month.

Niantic outlines the exact time in their February Blog post as 1 pm PDT. This translates to the following times globally:

  • 3 pm CT
  • 4 pm ET
  • 8 pm GMT
  • 9 pm CET

It’s likely that you’ll want to claim this month’s Research Breakthrough Pokemon to try and catch its shiny form, so be sure to wait until after this time to be safe.
