Portal Fan 3D Printed Awesome Replica of GLaDOS
Over the course of a whopping 150 man-hours, one dedicated Portal fan 3D printed a replica of everyone’s favorite evil AI, GLaDOS.
Fans have been recreating elements from their favorite games for years, from cosplaying to prop crafting, and now, to 3D printing. These fan-made projects resulted in some truly mind-blowingly accurate creations, and this Portal fan’s replica is no different.
Reddit user u/Bogey01 dedicated some serious time and energy to crafting an impressive two-foot-tall 3D printed replica of Portal‘s GLaDOS. Though it’s unclear why anyone would willingly put an evil, snarky AI in their home, u/Bogey01’s recreation is every bit the GLaDOS we know and love.
U/BOGEY01’S 2-FT TALL GLaDOS 3D PRINTED REPLICA
Originally posted in both the r/gaming and r/3Dprinting subreddits, u/Bogey01 showed off their printed, painted, and mounted GLaDOS. Though they didn’t go too much into detail in their overall process, they did reveal that the whole process took 150 hours over the course of two years.
Overall, u/Bogey01 used 4kg of filament to create a GLaDOS that was around 2 feet tall. Using 3D printed base parts, they painted the pieces to fully bring the robotic villainess to life. The additional hardware, sanding, mounting, and general construction all came from u/Bogey01 themselves.
Additionally, u/Bogey01 went on to say that the large-scale replica has a limited range of movement. Though the original STL files for the project allowed for full automation, u/Bogey01 had opted for size over function. They had scaled up the project to 150%, which unfortunately completely changed the dimensions and requirements for full movement.
Though, they commented that the size allowed for extra space, meaning there’s potential for some other future customizations. With room for a Google Home or Alexa inside the build, perhaps GLaDOS could one day respond with her iconic sass in real life.
To really complete the vision, u/Bogey01 went on to say that they were “thinking about getting it some motion tracking so she can silently judge people as they walk by.” Of course, this would be in true GLaDOS fashion.

The included wiring and hardware really make u/Bogey01’s creation feel so lifelike and real. It’s incredible what gaming fans can create nowadays with 3D printing becoming more accessible!
