Reminder: Don’t Buy Horizon Forbidden West on PS5, Get It on PS4 Instead
Sony has finally updated its digital store page for Horizon Forbidden West, making it clearer that the PS4 version also comes with a free digital PS5 upgrade.
So here’s your reminder, don’t buy Horizon Forbidden West on PS5 – get it on PS4, whether that’s physically or digitally, and upgrade to PS5 for free. Why should you do this? Well, it’s pretty simple. The PS4 version costs $59.99/ £59.99, whereas the PS5 is still listed at $69.99/ £69.99 (without any clear explanation why).
In fact, in the UK, you can get the PS4 version of game for even cheaper, with Amazon listing the new PlayStation exclusive for £52.95, while Currys also has it for £51 when using code ALOY15. You get the same game, but for less — it really is a no brainer.
Despite previous assurances from Sony, there was still some trepidation about the PS5 upgrade from @IGNDeals followers. Seemingly, the upgrade hadn’t been addressed since September of 2021 when Sony revitalised their intial promise of a free upgrade path for all PS5 launch titles.
But now, with the Horizon Forbidden West store page receiving a clairty update, fans can rest assured knowing their PS4 copy of the game will be easily upgradable to PS5 on launch day. You can preorder a copy at Amazon, or Amazon UK.
The only caveat to this deal; you can’t pre-load the PS5 version of the game if you preorder the digital PS4 version. It’s a tough pill to swallow for sure, but if want to avoid that wild $10 PS5 tax, it’s just the way the cookie crumbles.
Moreover, it has also been confirmed that Horizon Forbidden West will be the final cross-platform PlayStation game getting a free upgrade path. All future launches will include a $10 fee for those looking to move between generations of console — this includes God of War Ragnarok, and Gran Turismo 7.
