Warzone 2

While you might have thought that Call of Duty Warzone is here to stay for long years similar to CSGO, Rainbow Six Siege, and Fortnite, Activision has some plans for a Warzone 2.

Usually, when a free-to-play game reaches high popularity among gamers, the developers plan to keep it alive and running as long as they can. We have already seen this formula for many popular multiplayer games such as League of Legends, Dota 2, CSGO, Rainbow Six Siege, and even Fortnite.

The core benefit of such action for players is that they are going to keep their progression and in-game goodies for a long time, with no need to jump from one entry to another every year.

After the massive success of Call of Duty Warzone at launch, it seemed like Activision would follow a similar path in the long run, keeping it updated and enhanced for the new generation of consoles while regularly adding new content.

That being said, a new leak from an insider reveals that it is no longer the plan for Activision.

The Original Warzone Will Probably Die Only 4 Years After Its Launch

Recently, Bloomberg reported that Call of Duty Warzone 2 is already in the works along with two other projects from the same franchise that are being developed by Infinity Ward and Treyarch.

Later, Tom Henderson, a well-known leaker who has been trustworthy with his Battlefield leaks recently, claimed that Warzone 2 will be a new beginning for the free-to-play franchise, coming to PC and new consoles only.

The leaker implied that you will not be able to carry over your progression from the current Warzone to its sequel. This means Warzone will live for only 3-4 years overall, which is not what the majority of the fans would expect.

Warzone 2 is literally that… Warzone 2.

Current gen and PC only… No past weapon integrations etc.

A completely new game for the better hardware.

The game has already featured many big crossovers and fans have spent so much on their cosmetics and bundles in Warzone if we ignore the amount of time they have put into the game to level up every season.

While this already seems unpleasant for those who have spent heavily on Warzone, it’s yet to be seen what will happen to the game itself after the sequel launches.

If Activision wants a blasting launch for Warzone 2, it will probably need to shut down the original Warzone servers when the sequel is available. That being said, a better scenario is to keep the original game alive on old-gen consoles, at least.
