Samurai Bringer

Indie developer Alphawing and Publisher Playism have announced Samurai Bringer, a new roguelite action game coming to current platforms in Spring 2022. The announcement game via Playism’s Game Show 2022 live stream event. [Thanks, Famitsu!]

A trailer for Samurai Bringer was also on hand to show off the game’s unique art style, which blends “low-fi” voxel style graphics with more modern lighting and shading.

Alpha Wing and Playism bill Samurai Bringer as a single-player “roguelite”-style action game. Players play as the deity Susanoo, on a quest to rescue his spouse from Yamata-no-Orochi, the eight-headed snake. However, his quest goes awry, and he’s drained of his powers. He must undergo a gauntlet of tests from his big sister Amaterasu to regain power and subdue the villain. Stage layouts will change each time players play. Players can change their loadout of special abilities to find the right mix of tactics and weapons to defeat the numerous Yokai and samurai enemies in their way. They can select from a variety of samurai archetypes with different weapons, looks and combat styles.

Players can also unlock new styles, weapons, and armor by defeating one of the more than 100 named warlords roaming Samurai Bringer. These warlords correspond to famous names from Japanese samurai history, like Oda Nobunaga, Sanada Yukimura, and Date Masamuna. Defeating them unlocks new weapons and abilities, like war fans, spears, and even ninja-style dual knives. Players will also retain the techniques and loadouts they unlock, so being defeated doesn’t mean the end.

Samurai Bringer is coming to PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC in Spring 2022. It’ll support Japanese, English, and Chinese upon release.
