Something for the Weekend – 12/02/22
It’s the one weekend of the year where we’re allowed to make jokes about really good owls, but this time around we can also throw male sheep and big cats into the mix. American Football is a strange old sport…
It’s been a busy week in video games as well, where we’ve got all the announcements and games from the Nintendo Direct to go through, plus everything else that happened. So let’s dive right into our weekly round-up.
In the News This Week
We’ve got everything from the Nintendo Direct is in one handy place, but here’s some of the highlights:
- Wii Sports is coming back with Nintendo Switch Sports
- Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes announced and it’s coming out in June
- No Man’s Sky Nintendo Switch version announced
- 48 new DLC courses will be coming Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, first wave out in March
- Xenoblade Chronicles 3 will be coming to Nintendo Switch in September
Outside of that, this week also saw:
- Horizon Zero Dawn has officially sold more than 20 million copies
- Play online for free this weekend on PlayStation, Riders Republic is also free
- Report: An Assassin’s Creed Valhalla expansion pack is being turned in to a full game
- A Jak & Daxter movie is in development and may star Tom Holland
- Microsoft promise to keep Call of Duty and Activision Blizzard games on PlayStation
- You can now sign up for PSVR 2 pre-order information via Sony
Games in Review
It was a mixed bag of review scores this week, plus a few DLC reviews:
- Retro Bowl – NSW, PC, Android – 9/10
- Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel – PS5, XSX|S, PS4, XBO, PC, NSW, Android, iOS – 7/10
- Sifu – PS5, PS4, PC – 4/10
- Far Cry 6 – Joseph: Collapse DLC – PS5, XSX|S, PS4, XBO, PC, Stadia – No Score
- Crusader Kings 3: Royal Court DLC – PC – No Score
And for the hardware, Dom looked at a haptic feedback vest to enhance your VR experience:

Moving onto the previews, we had one of the busiest weeks of the year so far. Miguel started things off with a look at Rune Factory 5, as Dom asked if Triangle Strategy can surpass Final Fantasy Tactics.
Stefan got a good look at Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters, and also got behind the wheel of GRID Legends multiplayer, sharing a good 10 minutes of gameplay:
Meanwhile, Steve looked at one of the most anticipated new games of the year, Elden Ring, but not before Jim brought us seven things we need to know before Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok arrives.
Finally, What We Played featured Triangle Strategy, Rune Factory 5 & Elden Ring.

Here’s what you in our community has been up to this week:
- hornet1990 completed the main story line of Mass Effect Andromeda and so spiced things up with Metro 2033 Redux.
- willbuchanan nabbed the platinum for the enjoyable Iris Fall, before moving onto Everybody’s Golf and Watch Dogs. He also bought a PS3 to enjoy some old classics, starting with Red Dead Redemption.
