Sony Announces PS5 Has Shipped 17.2 Million Worldwide

Sony Interactive Entertainment announced during its latest financial results that PS5 has now shipped 17.2 million units worldwide, with the format holder shifting another 3.9 million systems during the three-month period ended December 31, 2021.

In addition, the console manufacturer revealed that PS4 has shipped 116.8 million units globally since its launch in November 2013. While this hasn’t reached the dizzying heights of the PS2, it’s certainly been more successful than PS3, and still one of the best-selling consoles of recent memory.

PS5 shipments were down 0.6 million during the same period last year, although this isn’t surprising seeing as how the console is still not readily available worldwide due ongoing supply issues.

The PS5 was released in November 2020 in the US, UK, Europe, and other major regions, but due to chip shortages brought on by the coronavirus pandemic, the system has been increasingly difficulty to get hold of at retailers.
