Techies to Undergo a Rework in Dota 2 Patch 7.31

Dota 2 patch 7.31 will rework one of the game’s most notorious heroes, Techies. Valve announced that it plans to release patch 7.31 on Wednesday, 23rd Feb 2022 with a host of changes, which will include an alteration in the dynamic of Techies. It is no secret that Techies has been considered one of the most obnoxious heroes in the game for a long time because of his very unique and unorthodox ability to use traps and mines to take out heroes.

In line with the usual wordplay that Valve uses to tease upcoming announcements, it tweeted that patch 7.31 will see a “rework to the contentious crew of Techies Demolitions!”

Since the news of Techies’ arrival broke, a number of reactions and sentiments have poured in, and one of the most notable ones was that of a devoted fan of the hero – Dota 2 personality, Jake “SirActionSlacks” Kanner, who hilariously expressed his doubts about this upcoming rework.

Most of the community holds a negative opinion of the hero because he is either too overwhelming or completely useless in games. Techies can be an asset in the right hands, placing mines at the right places and deterring enemies from making any confident moves. However, if the wrong hands are in charge, the hero becomes a liability since he offers nothing substantial other than his solo killing potential.

Over the past five years, Techies has mostly operated the same way, with occasional buffs and nerfs to his skills, talents, and Aghanim’s Shard/Scepter upgrades. The last time the hero was reworked was in December 2016 when patch 7.00 was released. Three of Techies’ abilities, except the Ultimate, were changed quite a bit during that update.

In its tweet, Valve described patch 7.31 as bringing “a host of changes”. The community, particularly the professional players, have been clamoring for a patch that introduces a number of changes for some time now. Dota 2’s meta for the past year has been quite similar and has become stale by now with many similar heroes being picked and banned. In addition to the hero changes, there are also hopes for changes to other parts of the game that haven’t seen a significant alteration in a long time, such as the economy – the gold and buyback calculations, the map – the terrain, Roshan, Outpost locations, and the side shop.
