Voice of Cards: The Forsaken Maiden Announced

Square Enix has announced that Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars, an indie RPG from Nier director Yoko Taro, will be receiving a standalone expansion titled Voice of Cards: The Forsake Maiden which is set to release in 2022. Along with that, the trailer makes clear that Yoko Taro will be returning to the project as the creative director.

The Forsaken Maiden will not act as a direct continuation of The Isle Dragon Roars, offering up a new set of characters and a new location for the player to explore. According to the official synopsis of the game, via Square Enix:

Voice of Cards: The Forsaken Maiden is set on a remote chain of islands that have been protected by the maidens for generations, but which now face destruction. The hero of the story vows to save the islanders and sets sail for the high seas, together with Laty, a girl who failed to become a maiden.

The second game in the unique Voice of Cards series, where all elements are presented entirely through the medium of cards, in the tradition of tabletop  Yoko Taro [13 articles]” href=”https://www.gematsu.com/people/yoko-taro”>Yoko Taro (creative director), Keiichi Okabe (music director), and Kimihiko Fujisaka (character designer).

(This game is not a direct sequel to Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars. Both stories can be enjoyed as standalone game experiences.)

As stated above, Voice of Cards plays like a card game mixed with a tabletop RPG. The only voice actor present is a dungeon master a character that presents the story with players exploring the world using a game piece jumping from card to card. Combat is also presented in this style, with special abilities using dice rolls to affect how much they hit.

Voice of Cards: The Forsaken Maiden is set to release on February 17, 2022 on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
