Metal Slug Tactics developer acquired by Focus

Metal Slug Tactics developer, Leikir Studio, has been acquired by French video game publisher, Focus Home Interactive.

This is the company’s latest acquisition as it continues to grow a stable of established game developers. In terms of how this effects Metal Slug Tactics, the upcoming spinoff is still planned for release this year and will be published by Dotemu (a subsidiary of Focus).

“We are happy to join the Focus Group because it is an important step for the growth of our studio,” said Aurélien Loos, founder of Leikir Studio. “This acquisition validates our multi-production strategy and will allow us to reach new qualitative and creative heights. This is a great recognition for the work accomplished by our teams over the past several years.”

Leikir Studio is the fifth developer to recently join the growing ranks at Focus. Other acquisitions include Deck13 (Lords of the Fallen, The Surge 2), DotEmu (Windjammers 2, Streets of Rage 4). Streum On Studio (Necromunda: Hired Gun) and Douze Dixiemes.

There’s no word on what other projects Leikir is currently working on beyond Metal Slug Tactics.

As the name implies, Metal Slug Tactics is taking things in a bold new direction. It may feature the same heroes, visuals, and imagery of SNKs arcade classics, albeit from a new perspective. We’re suckers for turn-based tactical RPGs here at TheSixthAxis and, beyond the Metal Slug name, we want to see the milieu of customisation and roguelike elements that are at play when Tactics launches later this year.
