RPG Maker MV And MZ Find New Successor in Unite

RPG Maker MZ and MV got a new successor with the Unity-based RPG Maker Unite.

Gotcha Gotcha Games announced on February 15, 2022, that it’s developing a new RPG Maker for Windows and Mac titled RPG Maker Unite. Seeing Unity is one of the most popular tools used in the doujin game/indie game scene in Japan, RPG Maker Unite aims to streamline the creation of RPGs through Unity.

First details on RPG Maker Unite revealed

RPG Maker Unite, like its predecessors, will allow anyone to develop their games without having to learn programming. Games made with RPG Maker Unite will run on all platforms Unity is compatible with including Mobile.

RPG Maker Unite is scheduled to release this year, in 2022. A Steam page was already opened for the software, and it will also be sold on the Unity Asset Store later on.

RPG Tsukuru renames itself to RPG Maker in Japan

The Maker series, started in the 1990s, is originally called the Tsukuru series (“Let’s create!” in Japanese) and has over the decades focused not only on RPG but also other construction tools to help people make fighting games, action games, and more.

With the announcement of RPG Maker Unite, the series is changing its name in Japan, abandoning the Tsukuru name to go for “Maker” like in the rest of the world, as a globalization effort. It’s similar to how Capcom started using the name “Resident Evil Biohazard” for its iconic horror series.

Last but not least, the past RPG Maker software on Steam are currently on sale to celebrate the announcement of RPG Maker Unite. It’s now or never if you’d like to try and make your own RPG. Did you ever try to make your own game? Tell me in the comments below!
