Skull & Bones is now set to be a “multiplayer first” title, says Ubisoft
The subject of long-delayed nautical adventure Skull & Bones has resurfaced in Ubisoft’s latest earnings call.
As first reported by VGC, CFO Frédérick Duguet offered the latest update on the game to investors last night. “It’s a very promising new IP focussing on multiplayer first,” he said. “So very consistent with our strategy to bring multiplayer competition and co-op first in a big open world, with a great, attractive fantasy.”
Duget continued “That’s of course a longer development time that we’ve had on that game, but we’re very happy with the artistic direction and the progress of the game so far”. During the call, the company also confirmed it still expected the game to launch in the next fiscal year. Also namechecked for between April 2022 and March 2023 were Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
It’s the latest we’ve heard on the open seas game since it reportedly hit Alpha stage last summer. The project’s been in development around eight years now, but was said to have been all but rebooted in 2020. Last August, it emerged that studio Ubisoft Singapore was under investigation by a local watchdog over alleged pay disparities and sexual harassment.
Whether we’ll see more on Ubisoft’s Skull & Bones itself in the near future, we’ll have to wait and see.
