There is no doubt that a place like Stardew Valley would welcome all types of creatures, humans and mythical beings alike. One of the mythical beings that reside here have ancestors that inhabited this world thousands of years ago. Most of them were already gone, but their history still lives on in Stardew Valley.

Where to Find the Dwarf Shop in Stardew Valley

The Dwarven race was once a force to be reckoned with, but nowadays, only a few of them roam the planet. Most of these Dwarves are now seen in caverns and dungeons, selling different selections of rare items. There is one Dwarf in this game you can strike up a friendship with, but you will need to do a couple of things before introducing yourself to them.

Locating the First Dwarf Shop

The Dwarf Shop in the Mines is where you can find the friendly Dwarf. To reach their location, you will need to remove the boulder blocking the way to the shop. If you attempt to break the boulder with a Pickaxe or a Copper Pickaxe, a message will display saying your tool isn’t strong enough to break it.

As it happens, there are two ways to remove the boulder. One is to turn your Pickaxe (or Copper Pickaxe) into a Steel Pickaxe. There are no shortcuts in refining farming tools, so you will need to upgrade your Pickaxe into Copper Pickaxe first, or you will not be able to turn it into Steel. Clint can upgrade your Pickaxe for you if you give him 5 Iron Bars.

Another way is to use a bomb to blow up the boulder. You can craft a Cherry Bomb with a piece of Coal and four Copper Ores. Rock Crabs and Duggy in the Mines can also sometimes drop Cherry Bombs.

Once you get rid of the boulder, walk along the narrow path to get to the Dwarf Shop. You can interact with Dwarf, but chances are, you can not comprehend its gibberish language.

There is a way to understand the Dwarvish language. And to do that, you will have to obtain four Dwarf scrolls and donate them to Gunther’s Museum.

Understanding the Language of the Dwarves

If you have not gotten around to collecting artifacts yet, now is the time to start searching for the scrolls to understand the Dwarf.

It would not be possible to buy items from the Dwarf without understanding the language of the Dwarves. If you are having no luck finding all four scrolls, we have included some tips on where to get each of them.

Dwarf Scroll I: Found by tilling Artifact Spots on any floor in the Mines or Skull Cavern. Some monsters also drop them.

Dwarf Scroll II: Found by tilling Artifact Spots on floors 1 to 40 in the Mines. Monsters such as Ghosts, Frost Bats, Dust Sprites, and Blue Slimes may also drop them.

Dwarf Scroll III: They can be obtained by slaying any monsters, but Blue Slimes have a higher chance to drop them.

Dwarf Scroll IV: Found by tilling Artifact Spots on floor 80+ in the Mines and dropped from monsters except for Serpents, Skeletons, Wilderness Golems, Carbon Ghosts, Iridium Bats, Iridium Crabs, and Haunted Skulls.

After you have acquired all four scrolls, you may proceed to donate them to Gunther’s Museum. Giving all four Dwarf Scrolls will earn you the Dwarvish Translation Guide, which allows you to understand the ancient language of the Dwarves.
